The deal extends an eight month expansion aimed chiefly at competing with OpenAI. In August 2026, Anthropic signed a $10 billion, six year cloud agreement with Volta, founded in January, for capacity from Norway. A $5 billion AMD deal followed in July. Its May agreement draws from two SpaceX data centers and reportedly supplies $1.25 billion of monthly capacity, aligning Anthropic with Elon Musk despite his rivalry with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. In April, Amazon granted another 5 gigawatts, while Google and Broadcom expanded their Anthropic relationships. Google, OpenAI and Meta are pursuing similarly aggressive compute growth.
