Summary

On October 26, 2026, Bedrock Robotics disclosed a $600 million Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, valuing the two-year-old startup at $4.1 billion. Founded in 2024, it has raised nearly $1 billion. US Innovative Technology Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners and Temasek joined existing investors 8VC, Georgian, Valor Equity Partners, Xora, Eclipse, Perry Creek Capital and Nvidia.

Two months after leaving tests and pilots, Bedrock’s retrofit self-driving kits are operating excavators commercially at a Nevada water treatment facility, a Champion Site Prep earthwork site in Texas and Zachry Construction Corporation’s 1.2 million-cubic-yard civil sitework project. Arizona contractor Haydon plans deployments across advanced manufacturing, water and wastewater, data centers and healthcare. The funding will expand deployments, customer-support teams and field infrastructure as Bedrock works to make fully autonomous excavators dependable alongside existing crews and workflows.

Bedrock says excavator mastery takes at least five years, while Associated Builders and Contractors estimates more than 40% of construction workers will retire within five years. CEO Boris Sofman previously led Waymo’s shuttered truck program and Anki Robotics, maker of Cozmo, which closed in 2019. Co-founders include Waymo veterans Kevin Peterson, CTO, and Ajay Gummalla, engineering and infrastructure VP, plus former Segment and Twilio executive Tom Eliaz, engineering and hardware VP. Amazon, Nuro and Uber veteran Amy Jones Satrom joined as operations VP, while former Uber autonomous mobility and delivery legal chief Lando Juarez became general counsel.

Positives

  • $600 million in Series C funding gives Bedrock substantial capital to expand commercial deployments, field teams and customer infrastructure.
  • $4.1 billion valuation and nearly $1 billion raised since 2024 reflect strong investor backing for Bedrock’s retrofit autonomy technology.
  • Three active commercial sites have moved Bedrock’s excavators beyond testing and pilot programs into real construction workflows.
  • Haydon plans to deploy Bedrock-equipped machinery across advanced manufacturing, water, wastewater, data-center and healthcare projects.
  • Amy Jones Satrom and Lando Juarez add Amazon, Nuro and Uber experience as Bedrock scales operations and legal capabilities.

Risks & concerns

  • More than 40% of construction workers could retire within five years, according to Associated Builders and Contractors.
  • Five years or more are required to master excavator operation, making skilled replacements slow to train.
  • Bedrock moved beyond pilots only two months before the Series C, leaving its commercial operating record relatively brief.
  • Haydon’s deployments remain planned, with no timing, machine count or project scale disclosed.
  • Three named commercial sites leave Bedrock facing the challenge of delivering dependable autonomy across many more contractors and conditions.
