Summary

Capital F, one of the few all female led venture firms, closed its $17 million debut fund on August 26, 2026. Co founders Margaret Coblentz and Dawn Dobras will invest $250,000 to $1 million in early stage women’s health, digital commerce and AI tools, particularly products addressing trust and safety violations that disproportionately affect women. The pair spent 30 years running companies and first worked together nearly 17 years ago at Charlotte Russe. Dobras later led Credo Beauty after a decade at Gap, while Coblentz founded and sold a luxury knitwear brand. Their corporate experience and subsequent angel investing exposed the scarcity of women among executives, owners and check writers. Capital F’s name references words including future, fund and fantastic.

Nationwide salons for women curious about venture investing generated most commitments despite Capital F’s disadvantage as a new manager. Almost 80% of limited partners are women, including Rothys CEO and former Old Navy head Jenny Ming, former Pottery Barn CEO Marta Benson, and Linnesa Roberts through Gingerbread Capital. Capital F requires founders to speak with at least two LPs before receiving investment, relationships that have produced advisers, board members, additional funding and sales introductions. The firm has backed 13 companies, including Medicaid doula provider Malama, telemedicine startup Hey Jane, period and cycle tracker Stardust, and Big Sur AI, which Google acquired in 2025 before the fund closed. Capital F expects to finish deploying the fund by the end of 2027.

Positives

  • $17 million gives Capital F dedicated capital for early stage women’s health, digital commerce and AI tools.
  • Almost 80% of limited partners are women, expanding women’s participation in venture fund ownership.
  • 13 companies have received backing through checks ranging from $250,000 to $1 million.
  • Google acquired portfolio company Big Sur AI in 2025, giving Capital F an exit before its debut fund closed.
  • At least two LP conversations per founder have generated advisers, board members, follow on investment and sales introductions.

Risks & concerns

  • Women remain underrepresented among senior executives, company owners and venture check writers.
  • Women’s health has historically received insufficient investment and attention despite women driving substantial demand.
  • Women disproportionately experience trust and safety violations, increasing the urgency and difficulty of Capital F’s AI focus.
  • New manager status complicated fundraising, with salon participants supplying much of the eventual support.
