Destro Raises $8 Million to Unite Robots and Workers in Logistics

Destro emerged from stealth Tuesday with an $8 million seed round led by Base10 Partners and Bonfire Ventures, with CoFound Partners participating. Founder Manthan Pawar, an NYU Tandon robotics graduate with roughly eight years in U.S. supply chain and robotics, expects cash flow positivity by the end of 2026. Instead of building robots, Destro provides an AI layer directing machines and workers. Yusen Logistics automation director Richard Brunelle, responsible for about 30 U.S. facilities, steered Destro from picking and packing toward cross docking. Yusen already uses conveyors and sorters, is testing trailer unloading robots and autonomous floor scrubbers, and plans a U.S. counterpart to its fully autonomous U.K. facility.
A Pacific Northwest pilot uses three Miva Robotics cart movers. Destro’s Vision operating system, built on open weight vision language action models, identifies full carts and controls robot movement, while Mothership coordinates workers, carts and trucks, reducing labor and replacing paper processes. Two unnamed major robotics startups could not manage the complete workflow. Yusen is expanding the site to 26 robots and starting a 17 robot pilot in Southern California, with Destro targeting thousands of similar warehouses. Harder manipulation remains a risk because generic bodies and open source models lack sufficient dexterity, while foundation model, advanced hand and humanoid developers may retain their technology and compete directly. Brunelle has found no compelling bipedal humanoid use case but is evaluating a wheeled humanoid pilot. Destro will present at Startup Battlefield from October 13 to 15.
