Summary

On November 4, 2026, EloElo announced an $80 million Series C from Hornbill Capital and NBCUniversal, valuing it at $500 million and lifting total funding to $130 million. MIT Investment Co. joined existing investors Play Ventures, Kalaari Capital, Waterbridge Ventures and Griffin Gaming Partners. Founded in 2020 by former Flipkart executive Saurabh Pandey, EloElo employs 240 people and claims more than 40 million monthly users across Story TV, learning app Master and companion app Voxy AI.

Story TV, which holds most of those users, has more than 33 million active users, 5,000 titles across six languages and average daily engagement of 95 minutes across multiple sessions. India has over 118 million monthly microdrama viewers and more than 1 billion internet users, while annual industry revenue could reach $3 billion to $4 billion by 2030. Story TV, Kuku TV and Quick TV ranked among India’s most downloaded streaming apps in 2025. The format is also growing in the U.S. and China, attracting Issa Rae, James Franco and Kim Kardashian.

Story TV sells monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions alongside ad-supported content, but only 15 million to 17 million users pay monthly, despite more than 40 million having paid once, and 72% have never paid. Free YouTube, Instagram and TikTok content intensifies competition, while Balaji Telefilms supports Story TV productions. EloElo will fund more originals, expand AI and machine learning hiring, and release Dolphin AI more widely for image, audio and video creation, including ads and marketing. Pandey says human showrunners remain essential. Rivals include Google-backed Kuku, Dashverse’s Shortfree, Pocket, Seekho and Kuku’s Guru, while InVideo has yet to provide India with a scaled alternative to CapCut or Instagram Edits.

Positives

  • $80 million in Series C funding gives EloElo capital to expand original programming and AI development.
  • More than 33 million active Story TV users place the platform among India’s leading microdrama services.
  • 95 minutes of average daily engagement signals strong repeat consumption across multiple mobile sessions.
  • 5,000 titles in six languages give Story TV a broad catalog for India’s diverse audiences.
  • $3 billion to $4 billion in projected annual revenue by 2030 suggests substantial market headroom.
  • Balaji Telefilms and Dolphin AI could strengthen production quality while accelerating content creation.

Risks & concerns

  • 15 million to 17 million people pay monthly, far below the more than 118 million Indians watching microdramas each month.
  • 72% of surveyed microdrama viewers have never paid, highlighting weak conversion from free consumption.
  • YouTube, Instagram and TikTok offer free creator content and are adding support for serialized formats.
  • Ad-supported viewing may generate less revenue than subscriptions, limiting returns from users unwilling to pay.
  • AI-assisted production still requires capable human showrunners, constraining fully automated scaling.
