Summary

On August 27, 2026, Google Search Group Product Manager James Byers announced three AI Mode travel upgrades. AI Mode already compares real-time flight and hotel data, gathers web recommendations and creates itineraries. Google Flights price tracking now lets users request alerts during a chat, compare current fares from more than 300 airline and travel-site partners, assemble itineraries and buy through an airline or booking platform. Email alerts arrive when prices change. The feature is available across more than 180 countries and territories in supported AI Mode locations and languages, excluding EEA countries and territories. AI Mode also globally shows partner-supplied points or miles prices for flights and hotels, then links out for redemption. A sample request uses American Airlines miles for nonstop Atlanta to Miami flights leaving October 9 and returning October 12. Initial partners are Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines and Lufthansa Group follow in the coming weeks. Some depicted features remain unavailable in the EEA.

Hotel booking is rolling out in U.S. English over the coming weeks. Users provide trip and preference details, compare a visual list with guest reviews and key factors, choose “Continue on Google” beside an integrated partner, select a room, inspect cancellation terms and pay securely with Google Pay. Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will participate. The hotel or booking platform remains merchant of record and handles customer service.

Positives

  • More than 300 airline and travel-site partners supply current fares for flight comparisons and price alerts inside AI Mode.
  • More than 180 countries and territories now have access to AI Mode flight price tracking.
  • Points and miles prices for eligible flights and hotels are available globally through supported AI Mode locations and languages.
  • Google Pay enables secure hotel payment after users compare rooms, reviews and cancellation policies within one conversation.
  • Ten hotel chains and booking platforms will support the U.S. English hotel-booking rollout.

Risks & concerns

  • EEA countries and territories cannot access flight tracking, and some depicted rewards features are also unavailable there.
  • Hotel booking begins only in U.S. English and requires a rolling launch over several weeks.
  • Airfare purchases and rewards redemptions still move users to airline, booking-platform or partner websites.
  • Hotels and booking platforms, not Google, remain merchant of record and handle customer service.
