Google Unveils Gemini Business Agent With Claude Model Choice
Google launches a unified Gemini agent for businesses, linking workplace systems, choosing AI models and executing tasks with auditable cost controls.
Summary
On October 8, 2026, Google unveiled a unified Gemini agent that answers questions and executes objectives for users. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said it can plan work, delegate to subagents, load custom skills, write code and use tools or internal systems. It automatically selects the best model, while users can override it and choose third party options, starting with Anthropic’s Claude; open source and private models are planned. Requests can include files, folders and projects combining files with skills, and a tasks inbox exposes reasoning, delegation, code and progress. Google is launching to businesses before consumers to address what CEO Sundar Pichai called harder security, scale and performance problems. Gemini has more than 1 billion monthly active users, while nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise.
The agent connects to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake and any Model Context Protocol server inside or outside a company network. Its own Workspace account provides email, organizational and calendar context, including teams, time zones and approvals; employees can tag, email, share with or add it to group chats, while its actions generate an agent attributed audit trail. Access spans iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, command line, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow and Slack. Early testers were On, Shopify and PayPal; Gemini Enterprise customers include BNP Paribas, Bradesco, Merck, Orange Spain, Santee Cooper, SOMPO, Ulta Beauty and Wesfarmers. Flexible spending options add multi-model orchestration, smart routing and real-time spend caps to control enterprise AI costs.
