Gudea Raises $7 Million for AI That Flags Social Media Crises
Gudea raises $7 million to expand AI that maps rumors across 500-plus platforms, flags crisis risks and plans city-block geolocation in 2027 for clients.
Summary
Gudea, founded in 2023 by CEO Keith Presley, strategy chief Jonathan Sperber and CTO James Thomin, uses AI to trace who drives online misinformation, hate speech and rumors, their speed, routes and likely direction across more than 500 mainstream and fringe sites, including X, Reddit and TikTok. Instead of counting mentions, hashtags and impressions, it analyzes behavior, relationships and cross-platform pathways so organizations can decide whether and how to respond. Gudea presented the platform Wednesday at Startup Battlefield during Disrupt 2026.
The technology grew from work begun in 2021 through the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit formed after the 2020 election. The team adapted overseas intelligence tactics used to disrupt networks linked to Al Qaeda and ISIS for domestic information campaigns, after finding existing products could not map movement among people, groups and platforms. Presley has more than 15 years in campaigns and defense and built infrastructure for Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign. Sperber researched disinformation, while chemical engineering Ph.D. Thomin has roughly 20 years of AI and machine learning experience.
Gudea has nearly 40 clients, including a Fortune 50 telecommunications company, Fortune 50 retailer, major AI lab and band, communications agencies and government agencies. Presley says inauthentic activity rose from one in four examined cases in 2021 to nine in ten now as generative AI reduced campaign costs. In the week before October 15, 2026, Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures co-led a $7 million seed round, raising total funding to approximately $15 million. Gudea plans city-block narrative geolocation for 2027 and eventually prelaunch advertising tests that estimate negative outcomes.
Positives
- $7 million in new seed funding lifts Gudea’s total backing to approximately $15 million.
- Nearly 40 clients include Fortune 50 telecommunications and retail companies, a major AI lab, agencies and governments.
- More than 500 mainstream and fringe platforms give Gudea visibility across X, Reddit, TikTok and other online communities.
- City-block narrative geolocation planned for 2027 could identify where conversations are developing with much greater precision.
- Prelaunch advertising tests could help customers identify potentially negative reactions before campaigns go public.
Risks & concerns
- Nine in ten cases Gudea now examines show inauthentic activity, compared with one in four when the work began in 2021.
- Generative AI lets a single person create content and coordinate campaigns that once required a larger organization.
- Legacy listening tools count hashtags, mentions and impressions without revealing who drives narratives or how information travels.
- City-block geolocation remains planned for 2027 rather than available to customers today.
- Advertising outcome simulation is an eventual capability, with timing and performance details still limited.
