IBM and OpenAI Partner to Bring GPT-5.6 and Codex to Enterprises

The deal follows OpenAI alliances with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services and IBM’s similar Anthropic agreement less than a year ago. It extends IBM’s model agnostic strategy, which combines its Granite models and third-party systems through watsonx and IBM Consulting. IBM lowered its 2026 revenue forecast last month after weaker-than-expected quarterly results, although CEO Arvind Krishna said AI remained a long-term growth driver that complemented rather than replaced mainframe demand.
