Instinct Gives Its AI Assistant Email to Run User Accounts
Instinct gives users dedicated AI email addresses for autonomous sign-ups, returns and business outreach, extending its new 1Password and Stripe toolkit.
Summary
Instinct, the AI assistant valued at $2.5 billion, began rolling out dedicated email addresses to every user on September 8, 2026. Founder Noah Shinn said the agent can create and manage accounts without cluttering personal inboxes or repeatedly requiring logins and credentials. It can sign up for services, contact restaurants about requests, ask businesses about availability, confirm bookings and follow up on unresolved tasks.
Instinct has reserved some addresses for its earliest users, while others can claim one at mail.instinct.com. Users can forward order confirmations so the agent can contact support, supply order details, ask whether they want a return or replacement and retrieve a printable return label. Adding Instinct to group conversations or forwarding long threads lets it track information, identify outstanding decisions and list deadlines. It acts autonomously until user input is required.
The email rollout is the first step toward Instinct owning and operating accounts. It follows a 1Password partnership announced last week for logging into existing accounts, location sharing that supports nearby searches, routes, itineraries and location history questions, and an August Stripe partnership enabling payments for trips, classes, appointments and purchases. Users gain convenience and can avoid surrendering personal email addresses and phone numbers for one-off tasks, but businesses may struggle to identify the customer behind an AI-managed account.
Positives
- $2.5 billion Instinct can now create and manage service accounts through a dedicated agent email address.
- Forwarded order confirmations let Instinct coordinate returns or replacements and retrieve printable return labels.
- Group thread access allows Instinct to track deadlines, unresolved decisions and other exchanged information.
- 1Password integration helps Instinct log into users’ existing accounts without repeated credential handoffs.
- Stripe integration enables Instinct to book and pay for trips, classes, appointments and purchases.
Risks & concerns
- AI-managed accounts can obscure the identity of the customer with whom a business is communicating.
- Group thread participation gives Instinct access to information exchanged among every participant.
- Autonomous tasks still pause whenever Instinct determines that user input is required.
- Dedicated email is only the first step toward Instinct independently owning and operating accounts.
