Listen Labs Drops $125 Million Round Amid $2 Billion Salesforce Talks
Listen Labs abandoned a $125 million Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation as Salesforce considers buying the voice AI startup outright for around $2 billion.
Summary
Listen Labs signed but abandoned a Menlo Ventures led term sheet for a $125 million Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation, an unusual and generally frowned upon venture reversal. Salesforce has discussed buying the three-year-old voice AI market research company for about $2 billion, but talks remain unfinished and could fail. Listen Labs generates roughly $30 million in annualized revenue, about triple Simile, making the proposed price approximately 67 times revenue. Simile’s $200 million Series B, led by Greenoaks at a $2 billion valuation in late July, likely established a new benchmark. If Salesforce walks, venture investors expect Listen Labs to seek at least $2 billion. Listen Labs, Salesforce, Menlo Ventures and Simile did not comment.
Founded in 2023 by Harvard master’s classmates Florian Jüngermann, a former German national champion in competitive programming, and Alfred Wahlforss, founder of staffing startup Bemlo, Listen Labs creates survey questions, conducts audio or video interviews, and converts conversations into reports and PowerPoint presentations. The technology offers Fortune 500 companies faster, cheaper research than traditional projects that can take weeks, helping them assess customer reactions and refine products. Customers include Microsoft, Canva, Anthropic and Sweetgreen. Outset and Keplar also automate interviews with people, while Aaru and Simile simulate behavior and responses. Listen Labs was valued at $500 million after a $69 million Series B in late January, led by Ribbit Capital with returning investors Sequoia, Conviction and Pear VC.
Positives
- $30 million in annualized revenue gives Listen Labs roughly three times Simile’s revenue.
- A potential $2 billion Salesforce acquisition would substantially exceed Listen Labs’ $500 million late January valuation.
- Microsoft, Canva, Anthropic and Sweetgreen already use Listen Labs’ voice AI research platform.
- Automated interviews and reporting can replace expensive traditional research projects that take weeks.
- Investors expect Listen Labs could seek a valuation of at least $2 billion if Salesforce talks fail.

- Outset, Keplar, Aaru and Simile compete through automated interviews or synthetic customer simulations.
- Listen Labs, Salesforce, Menlo Ventures and Simile provided no immediate comment on the financing or acquisition talks.
