NVIDIA GeForce NOW Exits Linux Beta, Boosts DLSS and Chromebooks
NVIDIA takes GeForce NOW’s Linux app out of beta, cuts DLSS latency, boosts Performance frame rates and adds nine games in August 2026 for Chromebook users.
Summary
On Aug. 13, 2026, NVIDIA released the native GeForce NOW Linux app from beta after months of community feedback, improving performance, stability and polish while supporting Ubuntu 24.04 and later. A new Flatpack repository simplifies installation and updates. Cloud rendering provides GeForce RTX performance without local upgrades, compatibility fixes or workarounds. Optimized DLSS Frame Generation reduces streaming latency, particularly at 60 or 120 frames per second in 1440p and 4K. Performance memberships also receive automatic, no-cost server software adjustments that raise frame rates in select CPU-intensive games.
Chromebooks can stream more than 2,000 supported PC games from existing libraries through a supported browser or app, with the same service available on Macs, Surface devices, everyday laptops, Steam Deck and mobile devices. Eligible new Chromebook and Chromebook+ owners can claim one free year through Chromebook Fast Pass, including priority access and no ads. Nine games arrive this week: Steam releases Car Wash Simulator and Pax Autocratica on Aug. 10; Clawed and Hell Let Loose: Vietnam on Aug. 13; Sandustry on Steam and Xbox on Aug. 13; plus Cat Mail Co., Misery, Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo and Pratfall on Steam. Creator Madelyn recently described GeForce NOW as affordable, widely accessible across her devices and a game changer, while NVIDIA invited responses on X and its blog.
