Positives

  • Peak XV invested over $50 million across Surge 12, while the 18 companies collectively secured more than $90 million.
  • August AI has reached more than 9 million users across 160 countries through its AI and physician led healthcare platform.

  • Thirteen of the 18 companies target global markets, despite more than half of the cohort being based in India.

Risks & concerns

  • Rajan Anandan said the Series A bar has risen significantly, increasing pressure on seed companies to show stronger progress.
  • Peak XV declined to disclose its higher median investment per company, limiting visibility into how capital was distributed.
  • Capital intensive deeptech startups increasingly require larger seed rounds, raising their financing exposure before later stages.
  • At least three cohort members had already secured funding before Surge, including Ditto and Rosella through Peak XV backed rounds.
  • Only five of the 18 startups focus on India, although more than half of the cohort is based there.
