Perplexity Portable Computer Lands on Windows for NVIDIA RTX PCs

Summary

On September 14, 2026, Perplexity added Portable Computer to its Windows app for compatible NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and RTX PRO Workstations with at least 24GB of VRAM. The local version of Perplexity Computer plans and executes multistep jobs, analyzes and combines data across files, and automates recurring work on-device, keeping sensitive information local and avoiding Computer credit use. It can escalate advanced research or reasoning to cloud models, but identifies the need and requests permission before sending data off-device. The launch extends support from NVIDIA DGX Spark and RTX PCs running Linux. DGX Station support is expected soon.

Setup includes a local model such as Qwen 3.8 27B, post-trained for Perplexity Computer and optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs, avoiding manual model selection and complex software configuration. Portable Computer uses Computer’s built-in browser and proprietary SPACE sandbox, plus Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub connectors. It can sort open GitHub pull requests by status, identify next steps, flag stale documentation and submit updates for review. It can also trace avoidable fees and tax drag across two years of brokerage summaries, consolidated 1099s and tax returns with every figure tied to its file and page, or inspect a startup funnel for activation drop-offs between installation and the first completed task, then post findings to Slack.
