Summary

SpaceX reported $14.6 billion in third quarter revenue on Oct. 20, 2026, with growth across every segment and net income of $4.4 billion, reversing a $1 billion year earlier loss. AI now provides 52% of income. The renamed Super Intelligence unit generated $7.5 billion from the recently acquired Cursor coding tool, Grok and a neocloud business operating 1.7 GW of compute. It earned $431 million after absorbing $1.2 billion in one time Cursor stock compensation. Bitcoin's recovery and unspecified related party income, potentially tied to a SpaceX investment, added about $1 billion.

Capital expenditure reached $19.6 billion as SpaceX funded Colossus II and Starship, which it considers essential for deploying new Starlink satellites and developing orbital data centers. CFO Bret Johnsen expects another $35 billion to $40 billion of investment in the fourth quarter. CEO Elon Musk spends four days weekly at Colossus II in Memphis, Tennessee. He said power, cooling and infrastructure now constrain AI deployment more than chips. SpaceX is using rocket metal casting expertise to produce turbine blades and vanes, bypassing manufacturer delays of 12 to 18 months.

Starlink reached 13.6 million consumers, with Musk expecting AI agents to increase connectivity demand. A November Starship test will attempt recovery of both stages, although Musk called reflying both the true milestone. SpaceX still lost $413 million across 2026's first nine months. Johnsen forecasts $33 billion to $37 billion in first quarter 2027 revenue, while Musk predicts Super Intelligence will lift annual recurring revenue to $500 billion to $1 trillion by the end of 2027.

Positives

  • $4.4 billion in third quarter net income reversed SpaceX's $1 billion loss from the same quarter last year.
  • $7.5 billion in Super Intelligence revenue came from Cursor, Grok and a neocloud platform with 1.7 GW of compute.
  • 13.6 million Starlink consumers give SpaceX a growing connectivity base as Musk anticipates rising demand from AI agents.
  • SpaceX metal casting capabilities could bypass 12 to 18 month turbine component delays affecting data center construction.
  • $33 billion to $37 billion in first quarter 2027 revenue is forecast by CFO Bret Johnsen.

Risks & concerns

  • $19.6 billion in third quarter capital expenditure exceeded SpaceX's $14.6 billion revenue.
  • $35 billion to $40 billion of additional fourth quarter investment is planned for projects including Colossus II and Starship.
  • $413 million in net losses remained across the first nine months of 2026 despite the third quarter turnaround.
  • $1.2 billion in one time Cursor stock compensation reduced Super Intelligence profit to $431 million.
  • Power, cooling and infrastructure constraints, including 12 to 18 month turbine delays, threaten the pace of AI deployment.
