Summary

On August 19, 2026, TrueFoundry released TrueForge, a free, MIT licensed, vendor neutral agent harness that developers can fork, modify, self host or embed commercially with any model. On DevRev’s Enterprise-Bench, covering multistep CRM, issue tracking and document management, TrueForge with GLM-5.2 completed 11 of 14 tasks for $2.90, 75% below Anthropic Claude Managed Agents with Claude Opus 4.8 at $11.80. Using Opus 4.8 in both cut cost about 30%, to $8.50.

TrueForge cuts context by loading MCP schemas on demand, using subagents, filing oversized outputs, processing structured results in code and compacting conversations at a configurable 50,000 token default. Its server loop provisions sandboxes only for code or files to reduce compute and raise concurrency. Developers start with one command and SQLite, then deploy via Docker Compose or Helm with Postgres and Redis; local mode is not for internet facing production. Standalone users must add controls, while TrueFoundry’s paid AI Gateway centralizes SSO, identities, permissions, credentials, budgets, observability, routing, guardrails and failover. NetApp beta tested it for incident response, ticket triage and developer self service; Automattic was a user.

TrueForge joins MIT licensed DeepSeek Harness and LangChain Deep Agents, Apache 2.0 OpenAI Codex CLI, and proprietary, Claude-centric Claude Managed Agents. Founded in 2021 by Nikunj Bajaj, Abhishek Choudhary and Anuraag Gutgutia, TrueFoundry raised a $19 million Intel Capital-led Series A in February 2025, with Eniac Ventures, Peak XV’s Surge, Jump Capital, Gokul Rajaram and Mohit Aron, bringing funding to about $21 million. It reported fourfold annual customer growth and over 1,000 clusters in 2025; by January 2026 it had over 30 paid customers, $1.5 million-plus ARR and over 10 billion monthly gateway requests. Customers include NetApp, Siemens Healthineers, ResMed, Automation Anywhere, Nvidia, Games24x7 and Synopsys. Its June 2026 Seldon AI acquisition supports unified ML, LLM, tool and agent governance.

Positives

  • TrueForge with GLM-5.2 completed 11 Enterprise-Bench tasks for $2.90, 75% below Claude Managed Agents with Opus 4.8.
  • TrueForge with Opus 4.8 cost $8.50, about 30% less than the same model’s $11.80 Claude Managed Agents result.
  • The MIT license permits developers to modify, self host, fork and commercially embed TrueForge with models of their choice.
  • The 50,000 token default compaction threshold and on-demand MCP schemas are designed to reduce repeated model context spending.
  • NetApp beta tested TrueForge for incident response, faster ticket triage and self service internal agents for developers.

Risks & concerns

  • TrueForge completed 11 of 14 Enterprise-Bench tasks, leaving three tasks unfinished in TrueFoundry’s reported test.
  • The free harness excludes model, sandbox and infrastructure costs, while TrueFoundry’s centralized governance is commercial.
  • Standalone TrueForge users must implement enterprise access policies themselves or connect another internal control system.
  • The SQLite local configuration is intended only for developer machines, not internet facing production services.
  • Claude Managed Agents reduces operational work, while TrueForge’s flexibility leaves enterprises responsible for deployment and infrastructure choices.
