68% of Americans Who Use AI Daily Are Worried, Gallup Finds
A Microsoft commissioned Gallup survey finds 68% of daily AI users in the US are worried, showing adoption does not guarantee trust or public enthusiasm.

Results published September 23, 2026, show AI adoption does not eliminate anxiety. Gallup, commissioned by Microsoft, polled about 1,000 people in each of 37 countries from April through July and plans to cover 140. Among Americans using AI daily, 68% were worried; across the US, 74% expressed worry, only 36% expected AI mostly to help the country, and just 45% of daily users trusted its results a lot. Canada recorded 29% daily use, concern among more than half of those users, and worry among 64% of AI aware respondents.
Singapore led daily use at 46%; more than 80% expected AI to improve everyday life and 77% expected national benefits. China reported 35% daily use and mostly expected national gains, while Israel showed similar optimism. Positive emotions reached 90% in China, 89% in Singapore and 87% in Kenya. Curiosity dominated in 34 of 37 countries, and only 32% overall felt worried, yet the median share trusting AI results a lot was 36%. India, Australia and Malaysia were absent from the current results.
Gallup senior scientist Pablo Diego-Rosell said use, optimism, worry and accuracy doubts can coexist. Anxiety follows hundreds of thousands of technology layoffs, shrinking entry level hiring, fatal cases linked to AI psychosis and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s warning of mass job losses. AI safety is due at Thursday’s meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping; China’s state security chief Chen Yixin has warned of systemic political, institutional and ideological risks. The divide could drive tighter rules and resistance in hiring, healthcare, education and government, while climate, cybersecurity, ownership, creative sector and privacy concerns persist.
