Instagram Lets Users Add Tagged Posts Directly to Their Profile Grid

Instagram now lets users place tagged posts on their main profile grid, helping friends, creators and brands showcase shared content without reposting it.

Summary

Instagram began rolling out a profile control on September 10, 2026, that lets users add posts tagging them directly to their main grid. Posts can be added from the DM tag notification, the original post or the Tagged tab, then removed from the grid at any time. The original remains unchanged and in its existing location, no duplicate is created, and grid removal does not remove it from the Tagged tab.

The feature lets friends showcase shared photos and gives creators or brands another way to display collaborations and multicreator campaigns without republishing content or using Invite collaborators. It extends Instagram’s profile customization push after Reorder your grid launched in June. Other recent content tools include First Draft, which automatically trims selected video clips, removes pauses and assembles the best moments into an initial cut, and Replace Audio, which changes music on an existing post at any time.

Positives

  • September 10, 2026 marks the rollout of direct tagged post placement on Instagram’s main profile grid.
  • Three access points, DM notifications, original posts and the Tagged tab, make adding tagged content straightforward.
  • Creators and brands can showcase collaborations and multicreator campaigns without republishing posts or using Invite collaborators.
  • Reorder your grid, First Draft and Replace Audio further expand Instagram’s profile, editing and post management controls.

Risks & concerns

  • The September 10 feature is an incremental profile control rather than a new publishing format.
  • Only posts tagging the user qualify for placement through this feature.
  • Removing a post from the main grid leaves it visible in the Tagged tab, while adding it creates no independent duplicate.
