Summary

Meta’s Muse exceeded 3.4 million downloads in Sensor Tower’s Thursday estimate, up from 2.5 million at the week’s start following its September 8, 2026 launch. The lagging data excludes the full Meta Connect boost, while early reviews praised Muse’s polished design and capable AI model. Apptopia estimates 4.3 million downloads, including 2.6 million on iOS, while Appfigures counts roughly 2.3 million, almost evenly divided between iOS and Android. Muse remains limited to the U.S. and Canada. Sensor Tower measured 2.8 million downloads in its first two weeks and 55% average daily growth from September 8 to 17, versus ChatGPT’s 24% during its first 10 days; Claude and Grok declined during their launches. Daily active users rose 27% Wednesday after Connect. Muse has led the U.S. App Store since September 18 and Google Play since September 19.

Meta Connect introduced upcoming Muse avatar video chat, Mac computer control, a dedicated email address, additional partners and connectors, and planned smart glasses integration. Meta began house ads September 9, and within 10 days Muse received most promotion across its properties, ahead of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Campaigns expanded to mobile ad networks, Reddit, TikTok and YouTube, placing Muse among the 10 biggest brands by advertising spend on September 22. However, Muse ads represented only 6% of ad impressions from launch through September 19, indicating substantial organic traction. Meta previously used Facebook and Instagram promotion to help Threads exceed 500 million monthly users, but Threads chief Connor Hayes said Muse promotions demonstrate personalized agent tasks rather than matching interest based user content.

Positives

  • Sensor Tower estimates Muse exceeded 3.4 million downloads after launching September 8, rising from 2.5 million at the week’s start.
  • Muse averaged 55% daily download growth from September 8 to 17, more than double ChatGPT’s 24% early growth rate.
  • Daily active users increased 27% Wednesday following Meta Connect.
  • Muse has held first place in the U.S. App Store since September 18 and Google Play since September 19.
  • Meta Connect unveiled video chat, Mac control, email, new connectors and planned smart glasses support.
  • Paid Muse promotions generated only 6% of ad impressions through September 19, indicating much of its early traction was organic.

Risks & concerns

  • Appfigures estimates 2.3 million installs while Apptopia estimates 4.3 million, leaving Muse’s actual scale uncertain by 2 million.
  • Sensor Tower’s Thursday estimate can lag adoption and does not capture the full effect of Meta Connect.
  • Muse remains available only in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Video chat, Mac control, email, additional connectors and smart glasses integration remain upcoming rather than currently available.
  • Muse received most of Meta’s house advertising within 10 days and ranked among the top 10 brands by advertising spend on September 22.
